I made my way down to Anchorage the day before to pick up my rental bike and stay with my friends Jim and Ayme Johnson. Just around the corner from their house is Arctic Cycles where Billy Koitzsch has a whole fleet of winter ready fat tired bikes available for rent. As Billy’s shop is the only winter bike shop available in Alaska, this is home base for winter bikers traveling to Alaska and in need of a bike. Billy is very professional and took the time to fit to me to my rental bike and replaced the pedals and seat with my own. Billy was born and raised in Alaska. In fact, his grandparents homesteaded near Fairbanks. He’s been in the winter biking scene for awhile now. As I stood around his shop watching him work on my rental bike he told me stories of the early days of winter biking Fairbanks and competing in the Iditasport before the invention of ultra-fat bike tires. So, I felt like I was in good hands and would recommend you call Billy at Arctic Cycles if you need a winter bike rental in Alaska.
